Erice (TP) – Last year’s debut in the EcotrailSicilia circuit is now behind us, with the Erice Trail confirming its status as one of the most captivating stages of the Sicilian trail scene. The event, held yesterday (Sunday 8th March) along the trails that embrace Monte Erice, offered athletes a day of sport immersed in a natural setting of extraordinary beauty, confirming the growing interest in this event, part of the EcotrailSicilia calendar.
It was also an ideal day weather-wise, with partly cloudy skies and pleasant temperatures, and participants running surrounded by spectacular views: from the Gulf of Trapani with views of the Egadi Islands to the countryside surrounding the medieval village of Erice and the view of Monte Cofano.
Approximately 160 participants took part in an event that attracted enthusiasts from various Italian regions, drawn by a competition that combines sport, nature, and exploration of the region.
The organizers offered three options. The main race was 20 kilometers long, with a challenging elevation gain of approximately 1,200 meters. Alongside this was the Trail degli Elimi, about 10 kilometers long and with a 680-meter elevation gain. Nature lovers also enjoyed the Eryx Walk, also 10 kilometers long, designed to allow runners to experience the route at a more leisurely pace while still enjoying the local landscapes.

The start took place in the heart of the historic center, one of Italy’s most charming medieval villages, before a large, enthusiastic, and enthusiastic crowd. From there, the athletes ventured along paths, natural stairways, and scenic stretches, making the race as spectacular as it was challenging.
The competitive portion was as interesting as ever, with the longest distance (20 kilometers) being won by Marco Noto (Trail Team Sicilia), who finished in just over 2:08:10. Ignazio Spinelli took second place, with Salvatore Castellano third. Laura Emmi of ASD Beer confirmed her time in the women’s race, setting a course record (2:16:54). Ninetta Grasso placed second, and Danuta Ania Figarska of Trinacria Palermo, Poland, took third.
The 10km Trail degli Elimi saw Debora Terrasona win the women’s race in 1:32:30, while Paolo Ancona won the men’s race in 1:04:34.
The day was rounded out with the traditional “third half,” a particularly popular event among participants, featuring tastings of typical products offered by local Erice businesses and various Sicilian agri-food producers. The weekend had begun the day before with the event presentation and a guided tour of Erice’s “Gebel Hamed” municipal theater.
The Erice Trail, the first event in the EcotrailSicilia circuit, was organized by ASD Ecotrail Sicilia with the active commitment of the Municipality of Erice and the patronage of the Regional Department of Agriculture.
The circuit immediately continues its journey through the island’s trails with the next event scheduled for Sunday, March 22nd, when the focus will be on the Trail dello Zingaro, which will shine a spotlight on the Trapani area.
